Our story begins in Shimla, a small town nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. Once the summer capital of British India, Shimla was home to British soldiers and civil servants who moved there each year to escape the stifling heat of New Delhi. To cater to the needs of the growing seasonal European population, Indian merchants of all trades established handcrafted specialty shops that lined the main street, Mall Road, and Shimla soon became known for its flourishing market. It is here that Bobby’s English Tack first came into being.

In 1880, Mr. Sham Lall Srivastav opened his store on Mall Road. What began as a leather goods business evolved into a specialty tack store to meet the needs of discerning local equestrians. The company, Sham Lall & Sons, soon developed a reputation for its superior quality tack and were appointed as the official supplier of tack to the British Army.

The business was eventually passed on to Sham’s son, H.K. Srivastav, who opened a tack factory to meet the growing demand for quality English tack. After achieving great success in his life, H.K. passed on the business to his seven sons, including Chander Mohan Srivastav, who continued the family tradition by supplying the equestrian community with finely crafted leather tack. Chander moved his family to the United States in 1971 and later resumed his trade as Bobby’s English Tack, naming the company after his young son. Following in his great-grandfather’s footsteps, Bobby now manages the business with the same standards of uncompromising quality and absolute integrity. Today, after four generations of hard work and perseverance, Bobby’s English Tack is recognized as a reputable and popular brand name across riding disciplines.

While our story began in Shimla, our heritage proudly lives on in the United States. Bobby is honored to carry on his family legacy and looks forward to supplying the equestrian community with fine leather tack for many more generations to come.
